Experience the Power of Breathwork

"Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts."

What is Owaken Breathwork?

Owaken Breathwork is a holistic trauma informed approach to breathwork that deeply respects the unique life journey of each individual, acknowledging how it shapes their physical, mental, emotional, and energetic well-being.

Unresolved chronic stress, intense emotional experiences, and traumas contribute significantly to a spectrum of imbalances within the body-mind system, influencing overall life experiences.

The sessions are centered around restorative and activating breathing techniques, designed with the primary goal of restoring the natural flow of energy throughout the body-mind system.

During an Owaken Breathwork session, you are guided to safely access frozen energy, sensations and emotions in order to facilitate release and completion of anything previously unprocessed.

This modality will increase your awareness of your daily breathing habits, your stress response, your emotions, needs and your intuition - aka “your inner guidance”.

This increased awareness will help you move forward in your life with greater clarity and effectiveness.

By tapping into the body's inherent wisdom to heal, you can process and liberate yourself from stress, tension, suppressed emotions, trauma, and accumulated energetic blockages, leading to a transformative improvement in your quality of life.

What Owaken Breathwork specializes in is working with activating AND restorative breathing techniques - with the support of Toning, Tapping and Touch - to facilitate healing and transformation in the BodyMind system as a WHOLE.

Improvements in daily breathing habits often occur as a result of working to connect to your body and breath, and safely process and release frozen energy, sensations and emotions.

The ultimate goal is for you to feel empowered through your own direct connection to your breath and the innate intelligence of your body.

Common Questions

Is breathwork only for trauma?

No! Owaken Breathwork is working with an altered state of consciousness where you can hack into the subconscious mind and can use this to suggest new beliefs or prompts, visualizations, thought patterns or emotions. Breathwork is an extremely effective tool for high performance and used by many athletes, celebrities and creatives!

How do I prepare for a breathwork session?

Allowing yourself 10-15 minutes before the session to ground yourself is a great way to prepare. You can come with any intentions for the session or reflect on anything that came up recently that you would like to bring in to process or get clarity on.

Try to eat 2-3 hours before the session. Energy flows easier when it isn't working to digest food.

What if I can't handle what comes up?

This is a common concern and it is important that you go to someone trained so they will know how to hold space effectively. I have an in depth client questionnaire that is mandatory before sessions so I can understand what you may be processing and design the breathwork accordingly.

My philosophy is that nothing will come up in a breathwork session that you aren't ready to look at or process. This helps you trust and relax. If big emotions come up, the intelligence of your body, as well as the guidance from the facilitator, will help you relax into the sensations and allow them to be processed.

If it ever feels too much too soon - you have complete control to switch the breath and open your eyes. I am here to support you fully.

Can I do a session if I have a medical condition?

If you have any medical conditions or are currently taking medication, please consult your doctor prior to practicing Breathwork.

Breathwork can result in intense physical and emotional release. Therefore, it is not advised for people with a history of cardiovascular disease, including angina or heart attack, high blood pressure, glaucoma, retinal detachment, osteoporosis, any significant recent physical injuries or surgeries, severe mental illness, diagnosis of schizophrenia, seizure disorders or are using major medications, blood thinning medicine.

Breathwork is not advised for persons with severe mental illness or seizure disorders or for persons using major medications. It is also unsuitable for anyone with a personal or family history of aneurysms.

Pregnant women are advised against practicing Breathwork without first consulting and getting approval from their primary care physician.

Persons with asthma should bring their inhaler and consult with their primary care physician and the Breathwork facilitator before their first session.

Emily Simmons, ON

My breathwork journey with Emily was such an incredibly freeing and rewarding experience in so many ways. I initially sought out breathwork with Emily with an intention of releasing negative emotions and guilt from past experiences in order to move forward and stop ruminating. After 2 sessions with her I not only experienced a profound release of past guilt and negative emotions I’d been (unintentionally) holding onto, but was also able to gain  clarity regarding the actions I needed to take in the present to move towards the future I want. That clarity gave me the reassurance and confidence to actually take the first steps towards implementing actions I had been putting off for months that have already provided benefits in my personal and professional lives. Emily is an amazing facilitator with a such a genuine passion for helping others and ability to create a safe space for healing. I truly cannot recommend her enough to anyone interested in exploring breathwork or beginning their healing journey!
